Although my son is only two years old, I try my best to keep him on the same schedule as school-aged children for several reasons. For one, it’s a very healthy and balanced routine of eating and sleeping, and two, it helps me maintain balance in my life outside of parenting. He regularly attends daycare all-year round, but for some reason this summer has completely thrown us off course. With summer quickly winding down, I’ve been trying my hardest to get us back into a comfortable and well balanced routine. I’ve been searching for ways to remain productive as a creator while at the same time managing my regular work schedule and my parental duties. My son also happens to be a super picky eater and a very active child. Needless to say, our nights are hectic! On a good day we’re getting home at about 7pm and I’m immediately scrambling to cook dinner, bathe him, feed him, and get us both ready for the next day. I also have to make sure we get some play time and reading time in there. By the end of the night, we’re both exhausted, and it’s not always a good feeling. Recently, I decided to make my life easier by utilizing two of my (now favorite) apps to help us get a routine going.
Those apps are: Sittercity and Home Chef. There are some days when I have deadlines to meet with blogging, and/or events to attend during the week, and it’s nearly impossible for me to get those things done while at the same time remaining on schedule with our daily routine. This summer kicked my creative life into overdrive (in a good way), and I had to call in some reinforcements. Sittercity was one of them. It is a very trusted app that allows you to select a sitter (including at the last minute), right from your phone. I use this service on nights when I have to do a lot for my blog or attend a last minute event. Most times I remain in the vicinity, but I use the sitter to keep my son busy while I work. That way he can come to me when needed, but the sitter is there to keep him focused on other things for awhile. This is soooo helpful! Next, I had to make a plan for my next biggest struggle. Dinner. There are days when I literally cannot make dinner for myself until about 9/10pm. This was becoming so unhealthy for me, especially since I recently began a fitness routine that called for me to eat well-balanced meals. That’s where Home Chef came in. Home Chef offers a variety of meals for the whole family. You can choose from 18 unique meals each week. You’ll find yourself creating meals you already know and love, but with a twist!
I recently placed my first order with them and I was immediately pleased with what I received. My first meal was a Salmon Entree with Veggies and Romesco Sauce. The whole thing took me about 30 minutes to cook, and I was able to continue on with our nightly routine with no issues. It was so tasty and the instructions were super easy to follow. I was very impressed with the fact that I had enough leftovers to take for lunch the next day. I highly recommend that everyone give both apps a try especially if your schedule is as busy as ours. You will not be disappointed!
For a limited time, Home Chef is giving Sittercity families $35 off your first box, plus an additional $10 off your second box so you can spend less time in the kitchen, and more time catching up with the children after a long day. Click here to try it out!
